We had quite a busy few days with DH's sister and brother-in-law visiting us from Amarillo, TX. One evening we took them down to road to the Carbondale Wild West Rodeo , voted one of the top 14 must-see rodeos in the country. It was a beautiful evening, and I'm glad I was in the stands and NOT in the arena!
DH's favorite events were bull-riding
and barrel-racing
My favorite, as usual, was mutton-bustin'.
Those little ones are so cute!
This cowboy
was thrown from his bull and had to run to the fence before the bull got a hold of him.
The next day we took M and S to Maroon Bells to do a little Colorado hiking.
Cars are no longer allowed in the area during high tourist season so we took the shuttle in to the top and then hiked a little over three miles down to the road where we searched for a sign that would signify where we could pick up the shuttle. We only found this sign:
Well, that was better than nothing!
We did eventually find a bench where we could wait. When we got on board there was the sweetest little dog who couldn't figure out why his owner would NOT throw his ball.
We drove to Aspen for lunch and walked around town.
Took them to the John Denver Sanctuary,
my favorite place in town,
and the Art Museum where we found this fellow
floating in the trees above us. None of us knew who he was.
Finished off the visit with mass on Sunday morning
at St. Benedict's Monastery in Snowmass,
where it just happened to be the feast of St. Benedict!
It was such a blessing to be there.
