A Walk in the Woods

Me thinks that the moment my legs begin to move, my thoughts begin to flow.

Three Cups of Tea

We were fortunate last week to have tickets to hear Greg Mortenson speak at Macky. If you have somehow missed hearing about him or his work, here is some info. Warning: reading the book is MUCH BETTER than reading this blog entry! Three Cups of Tea. After attempting to climb K2, Greg was cared for by a village in Pakistan. When he was well enough to go back home he promised the villagers he would come back someday and build them a school. Thus began his mission: to promote peace, one school at a time. I believe his school-count is over 60 as I write this! Greg is an incredibly humble man and I highly recommend the book. And if you have a few pennies you don't need, check out Pennies for Peace

Busy Time

I have really neglected my blog for awhile. I had obligations every night last week which is unusual and very tiring. I'm just not a night person but they were all worth attending. I will cover one of them in another note. I also have been busy making cards. Many birthdays at this time of year! I still need one more card for a nephew but I may actually settle for an online card this time. Happy birthday to Mom, Sue, Isaiah, LaShonda and Nathaniel! And our sympathy to Gerard on the death of his father.

Our Wonderful Unreal Hometown

I live in a city that has often been described as "twenty-five square miles surrounded by reality."

Here are two examples of the unreal lives we live here. First off, our traffic signals are messed up. Red means "STOP" but yellow means "Hurry up and see if you can get through-- whether you hurt somebody or not." The city has installed lights mid-block where pedestrians can push the button to start a flashing yellow light. This is supposed to stop the cars and allow the walker or biker to get across the street safely. As I said previously, in this town yellow means "Hurry up." It doesn't mean "STOP." I have seen so many people nearly get run over at these pedestrian cross-walks. Why doesn't the city change them to RED?
And then there's the fact that we are prohibited from wishing from bridges. If you make a wish and throw a penny off the bridge into the creek , you die. No wonder we're all weird.

Fractile Dysfunction

I have always been amazed at pharmaceutical advertising. "Maybe you should ask your doctor if you need the orange pill." Hmmm.............maybe I should ask my doc.
"Doc, do you think I should use the orange pill?"
"Sure, let me write you a prescription. (Ka-ching, ka-ching)"
Whatever happened to letting the doc do the suggesting, rather than the pharmaceutical companies? I wonder if the "pill companies" invent new diseases just to sell their meds.
Here's proof there is a pill for everything nowadays, even for Fractile Dysfunction!

A Finished Tag and a Pile of Fur

I have had so much fun with the Tag Booklet project over at the Artist's Circle group. Here is one of my finished tags which is in a little Numbers Booklet. I have learned so many new techniques and have used some in other projects.

I couldn't resist getting a photo of our kitties snoozing together. Pele and Artemis are nearly 14 years old now and Artemis is a bit senile-- with some annoying habits-- so I thought I should catch him looking sweet so as not to kill him at some point. PETA folks--just kidding--if I was going to kill him I would have done it a long time ago! He is quite the lover-boy -- can't you tell? All of his good qualities more than make up for his one fault.....or two.......or.............

Birthday Boots

I decided to try to draw my birthday boots. I used my Lamy Safari pen and Noodler's ink and like the way it came out, although the real boot is a bit taller than it looks in the drawing!

I like this better than the funny apple from the other day. Maybe I should stick to black and white----or brown and white in this case.

My boots are so comfortable I'm trying to figure out how to wear them all the time! Tom has a desire to become a real Colorado cowboy ..... maybe this is a hint to join him. Now, about that cowboy hat........................ I think I might look pretty spiffy at the next Strawberry Days Rodeo.

First Drawing Assignment

My first drawing assignment--draw an apple. Well, I drew---and here it is. Tom said he thought it did, indeed, look like an apple but I think it looks more like a reddish-orange egg! I'll try again.....and again......and.............we'll see what happens.
