Friday Fun

Middle Daughter and I ventured out to the flea markets today and this was her haul. She found so many goodies we just had to lay it all out and photograph it! I think the spoon rack was the highlight. It was made in India and has inlaid ivory or bone. She also found several toys and movies for the children she watches, several craft items, and a cool yellow purse.

The spoons were hers already, a part of her huge collection. Don't they look nice in her new rack?

Of course, we had to go out for lunch and decided to try a new place, Jimmy C's, which serves traditional English fish and chips -- and tea! Yummy!

Thankful Thursday

So, what happens when you mix curious cat with fly fishing?
Tuesday evening Dear Husband was working at his desk, with curious Quinton watching him work (or so he thought) when Quinton suddenly jumped down from the desk with fishing string attached to a little plastic cup hanging out of his mouth. DH was horrified, as this was the little cup that Youngest Daughter gave him -- which contained a fly from her fly-fishing class!

Dear Husband yelled for me to see if I could retrieve the fly (what am I? a surgeon?) I tugged ever so gently on the fishing line and realized I shouldn't force the issue. We took off for the animal emergency room and presented Quinton to the staff to see what they could do. The doc informed us that they would xray the little guy to see where the hook was. And she was quite concerned about the amount of fish line he may have ingested. That could make the incident quite dangerous and could involve surgery.

Can you see the hook? She then told us she'd TRY to get it out but she didn't really have the best tool for the job so we may have to go elsewhere. But she'd try. She'd have to sedate poor little Quinton, After about an hour she came out and was ecstatic! She had used an otoscope down the cat's throat and that gave her just the right space to retrieve the hook!
They even gave us the fly, with it's BARBLESS hook and the fish line still attached, to put into his baby book.

His front legs are shaved and bruised where they attempted the first two IVs. Apparently he has very tough skin and little veins! The third try, on one of his back legs, was the charm. He was quite loopy when we brought him home but slept quietly (you'd be quiet, too, if you'd had a doc's hands, an ET tube, an otoscope, AND a fish hook in your throat) and by morning he was his charming, purring self. The doc recommended soft food but after eating a bit of it he went over to the dry food he loves. I guess he's OK. He still has few days of meds but otherwise he's fine. And Dear Husband has locked up his flies. Geez, it's like having toddlers in the house again!
So, this week I am thankful for Dr. Krystin Richardson at the Boulder Emergency Pet Clinic. She and her wonderful staff kept us calm with her reassuring manner -- and saved little Quinton from needing surgery! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Dr. Richardson!

And I'm beginning to regret this previous post on Bella.

Make-it Monday

Last week was a busy one for the crafty Bella.
First, I had to make a birthday card for one of my sisters.
Here's the card:

.... and here's the sister:

It's too bad the picture is black and white because you can't see her gorgeous red curls!
Then I needed a journal for Creative Awakenings.

While working in my art room, little Quinton decided to help -- by pulling out all the paper towels, arranging them just so......... and then sleeping on top of his "nest" which included some newly painted ATC backgrounds. Good thing he's cute!

At Common Threads, later in the week, I made an Amy Butler Swing Bag that will be used as a sample in the store. Oh, and it's reversible!

If you like the bag, you, too, can make one! Common Threads is offering the "Swing Bag Class." Here's the info from their newsletter:
Amy Butler Swing Bag
This roomy, versatile, good-looking bag can be yours in one session. A smaller version of the nappy bag you've seen in the store, you'll still be able to get all your stuff in this stylish bag you customize yourself. Make a day for you and a friend and be amazed at what you take home. Materials list upon registration. Sewing experience required. Special Price: $55
Saturday, October 17th, 10a-1pm

There are so many classes offered at this wonderful store! For ALL ages and all skill levels. You can even come in and work on your own projects, if you'd like to just hang out and sew with some other "sewing folks." It's great fun. Come join us! Check out the schedule on their website! You won't be sorry.

Kaka at the library

So, I wanted to see if our local library had the latest Jon Krakauer book, the one about Pat Tillman and the government cover-up of his death while fighting in Afghanistan.

I accessed the site, typed "Krakauer" in the search box and it asked me if I meant "kaka." WHY would I mean "kaka" if I spelled out "Krakauer" which, by the way, I spelled correctly! And really, do people search for kaka in the library catalog? What's up with that? Oh wait, maybe it has something to do with those dangling penises they had awhile back?

As for the book, unfortunately, there are 50, yes 50, holds on the book so I may just have to buy the book if I want to read it any time soon.

Friday Funny

I don't know what's funnier: the dogs who jump in, or those who won't!

Dog Dayz happened here in town from Aug. 28-Sept. 7 at Scott Carpenter Park Pool, a 50 meter, 6 lane pool. They did away with the "no running on pool deck" and "no diving in the shallow end" rules. And of course, it's chlorine-free!

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for Dear Husband, who on this day celebrates his birthday -- a square of the age he most likes! Pretty nifty, if you ask me. Here he is with Oldest and Middle Daughters last weekend when we celebrated his birthday, along with Middle Daughter's birthday. Next year she will be a square number as well. Timing was just a bit off! Oh, too much math for a windy day.

I am thankful, and truly amazed, that Dear Husband found me and has stayed with me through many, many birthdays. The first birthday we celebrated together was his thirtieth and I took all the money I had saved (I was a poor college student) and took him to dinner at La Chaumiere Restaurant in Pinewood Springs, on the recommendation of one of his friends. Unfortunately, all the money I had saved was not enough to cover the bill AND the tip, so he paid the tip! Nice guy. But even with that, it still took me several years to consent to marriage!

Today we celebrated with lunch at Arugula. Feta Cheese and Prosciutto appetizer followed by lamb stew with polenta and pork tenderloin with french lentils. Very, very tasty. But for those who haven't been there yet... they don't serve coffee. Only Americahhhhno.... (can you hear how they pronounced it?) I think so they can charge more! :-) We sat in the window, although we realized how dangerous that could be. Read this. But no one came in through the window today!

Happy Birthday, Dear Husband.
