This morning we got up early and went for a hike on the Mesa Trail, beginning at Chautauqua Park.
We kept our eyes open for bears and mountain lions, of course! I love the sign that tells you what to do if you encounter a bear or mountain lion:
*Do not run, scream or turn your back.
*Make yourself look as large as possible
*Put children between adults
*Speak firmly and back away slowly
*If attacked, fight back
Thankfully, we saw none, but we did see:
spectacular scenery
gorgeous flowers
some interesting fungus
a rufous-sided towhee
and the eastern plains
We decided against breakfast at the Chautauqua Dining Hall because who wants to carry a tray of buffet food AFTER you've hiked? So we ended up at The Buff. Yummy as usual, and we were so hungry I forgot to take a picture of our wonderful food. So, here is the end of our breakfast, and it was only 9 AM! We still had a whole day ahead of us. Can't beat that!

Today I taught my group what the name for a Robbin was!
i think that fungus is lichen which is alga as well as fungus, random fact is that lichen growth rate is about one inch per century.
That's really interesting, Anonymous! Thanks for sharing. But why are you anonymous?
