Friday Fun
Here's what greeted me on Wednesday when I walked into the CU Bookstore. I guess Ralphie won't be running the field at football games this fall!

Mesa Trail Hike
This morning we got up early and went for a hike on the Mesa Trail, beginning at Chautauqua Park.
We kept our eyes open for bears and mountain lions, of course! I love the sign that tells you what to do if you encounter a bear or mountain lion:
*Do not run, scream or turn your back.
*Make yourself look as large as possible
*Put children between adults
*Speak firmly and back away slowly
*If attacked, fight back
Thankfully, we saw none, but we did see:
spectacular scenery
gorgeous flowers
some interesting fungus
a rufous-sided towhee
and the eastern plains
We decided against breakfast at the Chautauqua Dining Hall because who wants to carry a tray of buffet food AFTER you've hiked? So we ended up at The Buff. Yummy as usual, and we were so hungry I forgot to take a picture of our wonderful food. So, here is the end of our breakfast, and it was only 9 AM! We still had a whole day ahead of us. Can't beat that!

Thankful Thursday
I went to a bookstore yesterday to buy a couple books for a baby that will soon be born. However, the books I wanted were not available. The books, But Not the Hippopotamus and The Piggy in the Puddle, are two of my absolute favorites for little ones! But they are so difficult to find anymore. So, I am thankful that the store had two others that I just love, Miss Rumphius ("You must make the world a more beautiful place.") and Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb ("Dum ditty, dum ditty, dum, dum, dum.") I still have that last one memorized! And I am thankful for the couple who is excitedly awaiting the birth of this baby.

40th Anniversary of the Moon Landing
I remember the moon landing as if it were yesterday. Can't believe it's been forty years. How time flies.
"....gazing through 240,000 miles of space toward the stars and the planet from which I had come, I suddenly experienced the universe as intelligent, loving, harmonious. ... My view of our planet was a glimpse of divinity." ~ Edgar Mitchell ~

Walking in Boulder
Today we had an interesting walk to town.
First we saw this warning sign:
With temps in the high 80s, that's hard to believe.
Then we saw a very color coordinated young man:
Shirt, shoes, and shopping bag!
But then we saw the most amazing tall tree walking slowly down Pearl: Click on the photos to enlarge and see the detail! And check out the folks who seem totally unaware.

Thankful Thursday
Yes folks, a new feature on Bella begins today. Thankful Thursdays. Just what am I thankful for? Lately I have tended to thinking of all things horrible, bad, unfair, and this does me (and anyone near me) NO GOOD! Every day I shall think of things for which I'm grateful and then once a week I shall report on some of these and hopefully this will eventually pull me out of the rut of despair.
This week I am thankful for a loving family, great friends and reconnecting with old friends by finally breaking down and joining Facebook.
