Thankful Thursday

This week I am thankful for new life.
A new grand-nephew, born Aug. 1 and young friends have had
their first baby, born Aug 4.

As Carl Sandburg, one of my favorite authors, said,
"A baby is God's opinion that life should go on. Never will a time come when the most marvelous recent invention is as marvelous as a newborn baby. The finest of our precision watches, the most super-colossal of our supercargo planes don't compare with a newborn baby in the number and ingenuity of coils and springs, in the flow and change of chemical solutions, in timing devises and interrelated parts that are irreplaceable.”

Friends

"A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though (s)he knows that you are slightly cracked." ~Bernard Meltzer

Dear Friend and I began our Recorder-playing today near the library. Her daughter is afraid we'll soon be down on Pearl with a hat in front of us! Hmmm.................

Courage Classic for Children's Hospital

Here's what the brochure for the Courage Classic says: Enjoy our three-day, 157-mile route from Leadville to Summit County and back over quiet, back country roads and challenging climbs, all with gorgeous views of the Rocky Mountains.

"Quiet back country roads" !!! Check out this map. Vail Pass is 10,666 feet high! 157 miles in the Rocky Mountains folks. This is NOT an easy bike ride. But it gives the participants a taste of what it must be like to be a child struggling at Children's Hospital.
Middle Daughter's boyfriend participated in this event. He and his team raised $1300 dollars! Yay! Don't they look happy, with the Cyclist Magazine with his picture on the cover, and his medal?!
We sure are proud of this young man!!

Friday Fun

Here's what greeted me on Wednesday when I walked into the CU Bookstore. I guess Ralphie won't be running the field at football games this fall!
